SAIL TRAINING
In the Most Beautiful Bay in the World.
Puerto Galera offers one of the most beautiful destinations in the World in which to learn to sail, with crystal-clear, warm tropical waters 365-days a year. Light to moderate sailing breezes are almost guaranteed so students learn how to sail faster and achieve greater success. Since 2005 the PGYC has trained more than one hundred and fifty sailing students from around Asia (including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand) and elsewhere, using the unique, made-in-Puerto Lawin dinghies.
The Lawin dinghy design was selected specifically because it has a mainsail-and-jib sail plan so that everything a sailing student learns here can be applied directly on larger yachts.
Sail training ourses cater for students of all ages (our youngest graduate was 8 years old and our eldest so far was 54) and because Puerto Galera is a Mecca for all water sports, in between sailing lessons students can go and scuba dive, windsurf, snorkel, jet ski, kayak or simply bask in the beauty of this mangrove fringed paradise.
The yacht club also offers an afternoon Wet Wednesday Sailing Experience event during much of the year for those who don’t know if they are ready for a full sailing course but want to see what it feels like to take control of a sail boat and have some fun with like minded individuals. If you want to join the Wet Wednesday Sailing Experience then be at the PGYC at 1.30pm on any Wednesday.
Basic sailing courses cover three days of full time tuition with maximum time on the water. Students learn sailing theory, practical rigging & derigging, sail trim, sailing on/off the beach and capsize drills. All sailing courses are supervised by a full-time instructor, safety boat and crew. All safety equipment is provided as part of the course fee.

THE LAWIN DINGHY
The Lawin dinghy has a sail plan similar to the famous Mirror dinghy. The hull design features a whole bunch of innovative features to ensure students learn safely in a craft that is purpose built to handle coral reefs and other tropical hazards.
Built by local craftsmen at the PGYC in fiberglass, using materials and components sourced almost exclusively from around the Philippines, the Lawin is the perfect dinghy for sheltered-water sailing off the beach or from a pier or pontoon.
We sell them too. The Lawin hulls and rigging can be purchased for around Php65,000 (US$1,300). At around 11 foot long and light, the Lawin can be transported and launched from a trailer (not included), attached to the back of a family car or an SUV, to any part of the archipelago. Buy a Lawin and you are investing in years of fun sailing off the beaches and on the many lakes and estuaries around the country.
Contact the PGYC office today for more information about purchasing a Lawin dinghy for yourself or for your resort.
