As part of the Puerto Galera Yacht Club Inc. (PGYC) and Philippine Sailing Association (PSA) Joint Training Program, PSA National Dinghy Coach, Mario Malazarte, was back in Puerto Galera last weekend to put the young sailors of PGYC’s Small Boat Program (SBP)  through their paces and sharpen their skills for the upcoming Ladies Helm Championships to be held in Manila on September 7-8 and ongoing monthly PSA Ranking Trials. PGYC will send three teams made up of their best lady helms and crew to compete next weekend, and to date have managed to finish at the top of the placings in the Ranking Trails in their class. The ranking trials determine the top sailors for selection to represent the Philippines as part of the National Team competing in overseas regattas and events.

Last weekend 20 of the SBP young sailors attended Coach Mario’s classes in intermediate  and advanced dinghy sailing skills and tactics in both the International Optimist and Mirror/Lawin classes.

We are privileged to have Coach Mario help us and special thanks for Coach Mario making the long trip to form Manila for the weekend. The PGYC SBP is recognised at National level as being the most successful club in producing top level sailors and for introducing local children to the sport. Well done to all.
