“Stop Making Sense” Fundraising Party for the Small Boat Program

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

The party’s over folks . . .,
and it was a whopping success! The first event on PGYC’s social calendar is in the books, and our treasurer is as happy as all those who attended. The ‘Stop Making Sense ‘ benefit party raised more than 20,000 pesos for the P.G. kids sailing program. With this influx of cash we can enable our young racing prodigies, DJ and Gambi, to continue their studies in Manila and keep sailing on the national team.
The evening was an unqualified success. Whether watching the energetic concert video, listening to the music, dancing up a storm, or just chatting, it was apparent that everybody had a great time. Money was mostly raised from a raffle in which you could place your lucky ticket stubs into 14 different boxes in hopes of winning the particular prize of your desires. Local restaurants, resorts, and diveshops generously donated gift certificates, and 5 of our members ( Gundolf Ahrens, Peter Stevens, Alan Burrell, Goran Rudelius, and Rob Belcher) sponsored afternoon cruises on their yachts.

Philippines takes home the Silver (3X) in the World Mirror Championships

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Only 5.2 points separated the top two teams competing in the 2011 LandCorp Mirror World Championship at the start of the final day of racing off Albany, just outside Perth, Western Australia on the morning of January 8. The Philippine Sailing Association senior team, Ridgely Balladares and Rommel Chavez, had sailed their way through the tough 15 race world series to be within grasp of the World Championship. Only the fighting Irish Ross Kearney and Max Ordell stood in their way.

Tortang Talong

Tortang Talong (Eggplant Omelette) A Filipino Favourite!

Char grill the eggplant over hot coals or simply over gas flame until the skin can be removed easily.
Remove the skin by holding the stem and peeling. (no need to remove the stem)
Prepare mix of eggs, tomatoes, onions, salt and pepper – I throw in some chopped chilli also.
Lay the eggplant in the egg mixture and flatten with a fork or spatula.
Shallow fry the eggplant for about 1 and a half minutes either side.
Serve with just about anything – a dipping sauce of soy, chilli and calamansi (or lemon), a spicy chutney, or my favourite – a sprinkling of parmesan cheese!
